1. Respiratory & Circulatory System:

  1. Epiglottis Animation: Shows how the epiglottis functions in causing food to go to the esophagus rather than the trachea.
  2. Diaphragm Animation: Shows that the diaphragm goes down when inhaling and vise versa. Therefore as the volume of the chest cavity increases, the pressure of the gases decreases to allow for the passage of gases between the air and our lungs.
  3. Oxygen in, Carbon dioxide out animation: Also shows how our red blood cells flatten as they enter the capillaries. Watch the location of the red blood as it moves through both the pulmonary circuit and the systemic circuit. This animation occurs at real time (20 seconds of cycle) and shows the red blood cell deform as it enters capillaries, as well as changing color as it alternates in states of oxygenation along the circulatory system.

  2. Two New Blood Types Identified – Aside from the ABO blood type and the Rhesus (Rh) blood type, the International Blood Transfusion Society recognizes twenty-eight additional blood types. Finally, with the addition of these 2 new types, there are still probably 10 to 15 unknown blood type systems.
